About Us
Girlfriends Ignite is a Christian based organization that stands on the principles of Christ. Each month Girlfriends ignite focuses on a different topic that teenage girls face on a day to day basis. Each teen is assigned a mentor to encourage them throughout the month of our designated topics. These topics include purpose, self esteem, sexual purity, dating, bullying, hygiene, etiquette, college and careers, etc.
Our Motto is that we walk in spirit and in truth.
Our Belief is found in (Galatians 5:16) I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Our Mission:
- EMPOWERS young women by promoting self-awareness, introducing womanhood, and by providing mentoring programs.
- ENABLES young women to be confident and to be leaders in their schools, careers, and communities; therefore helping to improve and cultivate the social stature of women in today’s society.
- EDUCATES young women in the areas of self-esteem, peer pressure, sexuality, college, and careers; which will help them to further embrace their role as young women and to promote unity among ALL women.

Our Founders
The vision of Girlfriends was given to Cassandra Wooten in July 2008 due to a series of interaction with three teenage girls. Some of the issues that the teens dealt with were neglect from the home, low self esteem and premarital sex. After speaking with the teens, Cassandra discovered there was a great need in the community to mentor young ladies.
In the summer of 2010, Cassandra presented the idea to seven of her college friends, two of which included Tamera-Jo Grant and Alicia Henderson who remain members of the executive team. After the idea was proposed, Cassandra and her friends planned the first annual Girlfriends Conference. The conference took place August 21, 2010 in Dallas, TX at the Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center. The conference addressed issues such as virginity, single mothers, domestic violence and careers. In addition to those topics, it exuberated fashion of proper and improper attire to wear to church, the mall, on a date and how to conduct themselves on an interview. There were also workshop sessions on self esteem and peer pressure which are two major areas that teenagers battle with from day to day. The conference was a huge success! Many teens came forward expressing their feelings to keep the conference going and thoroughly appreciated the efforts that went forth.
Tamera-Jo Grant always had a passion for wanting to give back to the youth. When she lost her brother in 2006 from suicide, she then knew, she had to have a non-profit organization to mentor to the youth. However, she found it would be a challenge to give back to the teenage males because she was unable to relate to their needs. Therefore, Tamera identified better with the teenage girls and decided to make that her focus. So, when Cassandra presented her idea for the conference, Tamera was on board. After working with Cassandra during the conference, she was inspired to recruit the teens for mentoring. The two decided to collaborate their ideas and teamed up to form the organization, Girlfriends Ignite.
Today, Tamera-Jo Grant oversees the mentoring program and Cassandra Wooten oversees the logistics of the organization. Together they were able to unite and express their passions to ignite the community.
